Downtown Hopewell Space Feasibility Study (2017)

Hopewell Downtown Partnership
Studied the community demand for potential uses of a 14,000-square-foot building, located in Downtown Hopewell. The study looked at successful kitchen incubators andmakerspace facilities in other states, conducting a business survey, and presenting a cash flow analysis of five scenarios for potential uses of the space.

Captain Sinclair's Recreation Area Plan (2015)

Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission and Virginia Sea Grant
Conducted with the help of five VCU graduate classes in the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program, recommends environmentally sensitive reuse options and an overall community development strategy for a suite of waterfront properties on the Middle Peninsula.


Culpeper Downtown Market Assessment and Enhancement Strategies (2015)

Culpeper Renaissance Inc.
Competitive market analysis and identification of Downtown new business development opportunities. Also, analysis of how other Main Street communities have addressed these issues: developing dedicated space and services for start-up businesses; attracting more customers by extending shop hours; increasing the downtown’s capture rate of regional tourists; expanding the district physically; increasing ground-floor space devoted to retail and restaurants.


Housing the Richmond Region: Needs, Impediments, Strategies (2015)

Partnership for Housing Affordability
Conducted with the Virginia Tech Housing Center, assesses current housing needs in the Richmond Region, identifies impediments to overcoming the affordability problem and makes recommendations for attaining an adequate supply of quality housing for all incomes and circumstances.


An Accelerant Model of Community Revitalization (2014)

Assessment of VCC’s efforts in three rural Virginia communities (Floyd, Glade Springand Onancock) and, based in part on the result of that assessment, recommendations for an “accelerant model” to guide VCC’s strategic investment initiatives.

Opportunities to Revitalize Upper Giampilieri, Sicily (with Elena Girasella and Michele Limosani, 2011)
Post-disaster economic revitalization plan for Giampilieri, a small village outside the City of Messina, Sicily. In 2009, a mudslide hit the urban core of the village killing more than 30 people. In addition to the existing studies and efforts focusing on physical reconstruction, this plan looked at the main economic and commercial functions of the village before and after the disaster, identifying strategies and measures to revitalize the area and restore its micro-economic role within the region.
